I. AWARDS

A. Registered Technologist Competition: First, Second, and Third.
B. Student Technologist Competition: First, Second, and Third. (First place Student Technologist receives the Clara Sanger Award.)

II. ELIGIBILITY
A. Members of the NDSRT are eligible to enter competition, except as excluded in II.
B. NDSRT elected officers; convention chairpersons and essay judges are not eligible to compete.

III. JUDGING
A. Judging of the essays shall be the responsibility of three judges who are appointed each year by the Convention Advisor according to "Guidelines Established for the Selection of Judges for NDSRT Scientific Display and Essay Competition."
B. All Decisions of the judges shall be final.
C. Manuscripts not achieving 75 points on the evaluation scale will not be considered for an award.
D. Judging shall be done on unidentified manuscripts on the basis of the following scale:

a. Evidence of original work performed by the author.
(Excludes research of lit.) 0-15
b. Evidence of originality of topic or approach. 0-15
2. Educational or technical value (Contributes to higher 0-20 radiologic standards, updates, expands or enhances existing knowledge)
3. Scholarship
a. Mastery of subject matter 0-10
b. Research of literature 0-5
c. Adequate references, Adequate bibliography, 0-5  (appropriate to length of paper)
4. Organization of material
a. Development: Is material orderly and presented in 0-10 a logical sequence?
b. Visual materials: Are drawings or illustrations used 0-10 to support or promote understanding of the text? (A paper will not be penalized for lack of illustrations if the text is self-explanatory)
5. Mechanics (Neatness, grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.) 0-10

E. Authors submitting a manuscript shall do so with the understanding that if it is
accepted for the scientific program at the annual meeting, the author will be Reimbursed for one nights lodging and whole convention registration fees.
F. Winning or competing essays cannot be published in other than Scattered Radiation/NDSRT Web Site without the written consent of the author.
G. Two hours will be allotted during the convention for essay papers. The top three papers in each division, student and technologists will be presented. In order to be eligible to receive a first, second, or third place award, the student/technologist will have to present his/her essay.

IV. MANUSCRIPTS
A. Manuscripts submitted for award consideration become the property of the

NDSRT.
B. Award winning papers will be forwarded to the editor of Scattered Radiation for publication consideration
C. Manuscripts must be original with the author submitting them. They cannot have been previously published or accepted for publication prior to the annual meeting. Direct quotes must be included.
D. Manuscripts shall be at least 1,500 words. Reading time shall be limited to 20 minutes.
E. Manuscripts must be typed, double spaced, in standard manuscript style on one side of good grade white paper, 8 1/2 x 11 inches with wide margins and numbered pages fastened securely on the left side. (They shall be printed in clear, black print, like a laser or ink jet printer produces.)
F. Four copies shall be submitted, three unidentified and one identified.
G. The title page of the identified manuscript shall carry the author's name, address, and place of practice.

V. ILLUSTRATIONS
The author is responsible for preparing slides of all pertinent illustrations if the paper is selected for the annual meeting. Slides additional to the material contained in the submitted text may be used in the presentation, if they do not expand the presentation time beyond the 20-minute time limit.

VI. DEADLINE
Your copies of the manuscript must be mailed by January 15th to the Convention Advisor for the Annual Meeting of the NDSRT. Judging of the papers will be completed by March 1.

VII. PRESENTATION OF AWARDS
Awards shall be presented during the annual meeting banquet.


Exhibit Information

INTRODUCTION
     Competition for display awards at the annual meeting of the North Dakota Society of Radiologic Technologists is available to members of the North Dakota Society of Radiologic Technologists in two categories: Registered Technologists and Student Technologists. The following rules and regulations govern the competition in the categories as specified.
I. AWARDS
     A.Registered Technologist Competition: First, Second, and Third.
     B.Student Technologists Competition: First, Second, and Third.
II. ELIGIBILITY
     The eligibility of competitors and displays is established as follows:
     A.Entrant
          1.NDSRT elected officers, convention chairpersons and display judges are not eligible to compete.
          2.Each entrant may submit only one display per annual meeting.
          3.Registered Technologists Competition: Any registered technologist who is a member of the NDSRT at the time of application is eligible to compete except in I & II.
          4.No more than two technologists (student or technologist) may submit a display together.
     B.Display
          1.A display submitted for award consideration shall NOT have been previously shown at an annual meeting of the NDSRT.
          2.A display shown previously at an affiliate society meeting IS eligible for competition.
          3.A display must be original work of the individual technologist(s), and cannot be commercially prepared. Courtesy recognition will not be permitted.
III. APPLICATION PROCEDURE
     A.All applications for space must be with the person designated by the NDSRT Convention Chairperson and postmarked on or before midnight January 15th.
     B.The title and a brief description of the display must accompany the application for space.
     C.The student's program director must sign the student application for display space and must include the name(s) of the student(s) submitting the display.
     D.All applications for display must be on the forms provided by the NDSRT.
IV. SPONSORSHIP
     A.A display submitted by a registered technologist or student technologist must be shown in the name of the individual exhibitor(s). The name of a hospital, program or office may not appear as part of the address.
     B.The display will not be identified until after it is judged.
V. PREPARATION OF DISPLAY
     A.Subject matter
          1.Display and subject matter will be chosen by entrant.
          2.The subject matter should be pertinent to radiologic technology and may be supplemented by charts, description material, technical factors, photographs, etc., as are deemed necessary and that can be con contained within the allotted space as defined in V., B., 1.
          3.Displays should demonstrate originality of subject matter, be of general interest and value to technologists for both practical and educational viewpoints and be of technical excellence.
          4.Displays shall show no image or markings that could identify patient, institution, or department.
          5.Displays shall not contain excessive descriptive explanation. A well presented display requires minimum explanation. The display should speak for itself.
     B.Mechanics
          1.The NDSRT will provide one 6' x 30" table for each display. The entrant may furnish up to four additional 14" x 17" view-boxes, as an alternative, the exhibitor may request a maximum of 6' x 30" of floor space for free-standing, self-contained display.
          2.Displays shall not exceed 4 feet in depth and 3 feet in height.
               a.The display must be contained within the allocated space.
               b.Displays not conforming to these specifications will not be accepted for competition.
          3.When filling out the display application, the amount and type of space required must be indicated.
          4.Final acceptance of the display is dependent upon satisfactory completion of all the above criteria.
VI. INSTALLATION AND DISMANTLING
     A.Installation
          1.Display space will be assigned by the person designated by the Convention Chairperson.
          2.Installation of the display shall begin a day prior to the official opening of the annual meeting and must be completed before official opening of the scientific display area.
     B.Dismantling
          1.Displays must remain intact in the display area until the exhibits close on the last day of the meeting.
          2.Displays that are not dismantled by the specified time will be discarded.
VII. DISPLAY HOURS
     The scientific displays will be in accordance with hours specified in the official program.
VIII. LIABILITY
     The entrant shall assume responsibility for the display. The NDSRT is not responsible for loss or damage. The NDSRT will take all responsible precautions to assure the security of displays during the period of display.
IX. JUDGES
     A.Selection of Judges:
               Judges shall be selected each year by the Convention Advisor according to "Guidelines Established for the Selection of Judges for NDSRT Scientific Display and Essay Competition." Their names shall be known only to the Convention Chairperson and Convention Advisor. The judges shall be responsible to the Convention Advisor. All decisions shall be final.
     B.Judging Criteria

               a.Professional Value: Is of interest and practicality to a significant number of technologists

               b.Educational Value: Contains information so that observation is a learning experience.

X. PRESENTATION OF AWARDS
     Ribbons will be attached to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place exhibits for the student category and also technologist category. These ribbons will be attached to the exhibits Saturday afternoon. Awards shall be presented during the Annual Meeting Banquet.
